Annual Vacation

In accordance with Schedule A, Article 2.16, academic staff members are entitled to 22 working days of paid vacation after completing 11 months of continuous full-time service. For vacation purposes, the employment year runs from July 1 to June 30. Academic staff members earn one additional working day of vacation for each completed year of full-time, continuous service beyond 10 years, to a maximum of eight additional days. 

Vacation may be taken at any time during the year with the approval of the Department Head (or equivalent) and the Dean (or administrative equivalent). Vacation periods of more than five consecutive working days must be reported to the Provost, unless taken between May 1 and the start of Fall classes.

Academic staff members should contact their Department Head (or equivalent) to submit vacation requests. Processes for submitting and approving vacation may vary by faculty or department. 

Vacation entitlement earned up to May 31 of an employment year may not be carried forward beyond June 30 of the following year, except in cases where the vacation accrues immediately prior to a Research & Scholarship Leave or Administrative Leave. In such cases, unused vacation may be carried forward and must be taken prior to the commencement of Fall classes following the conclusion of the leave (Schedule A, Article 2.16.6).
