Application to apply for
Scholarships, to be known as Fessenden-Trott scholarships, have been established in memory of the late Professor Reginald Aubrey Fessenden and the late Helen May Fessenden (née Trott).
Up to four (4) scholarships will be available at the bachelor level. These scholarships are valued at $9,000 CAD for students who have completed their first year of their first bachelor’s degree program by the deadline date of June 7 in the year of application. Applicants who have undertaken prior post-secondary studies (other than the first year of their first bachelor’s degree program) will not be eligible. The scholarship is tenable for up to three consecutive academic years or until the first bachelor’s degree is obtained.
Students are required to complete their application on our website and should select the button titled "Non-Public Scholarships – Enter your Company Code" and input the following company code: 069FES2026. Once completed, they must download their application form and send it to their institution.

Required Documents:
- Both an academic and an extracurricular reference form from someone not related to you;
- Transcripts of the first year of marks (two terms of studies);
- An essay describing your volunteer/community involvement and/or extracurricular activities over the past three years.
Nomination:
- Each institution may nominate one candidate for the scholarship;
- Applicants must download their completed application and submit it, along with all required supporting documents, to their nominating institution. Conditions/Restrictions:
- If you are pursuing a three-year degree followed by a professional degree (e.g., law, medicine, education), you are eligible to receive funds for up to five consecutive academic years.
- If you start post-secondary studies in January, you are eligible for the spring competition of the same year.
- If you have previously held a Fessenden-Trott Scholarship you are not eligible to apply.
- FESSENDEN-TROTT SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE retains the right to change or end the Fessenden-Trott Scholarship without notice.
Evaluation Criteria:
Applications are assessed on academic performance; volunteer/community involvement and/or extracurricular activities; and content and relevance of reference forms.
Successful Applicants:
You will receive scholarship confirmation in August. When you receive your confirmation, complete the online acceptance process and submit any necessary documentation, which includes proof of registration from your educational institution.
Award description
- You are entering the second year of your first bachelor’s degree on a full-time basis in September 2026. Your program of study can be in any field or discipline, lasting at least three years.
- You have Canadian citizenship or permanent residency by June 4th in the year of application.
- You have attained a high academic standing as defined by the nominating institution.
- You have been nominated by a Canadian educational institution where the first year of the first bachelor’s degree studies has been completed.
