The Department of History celebrated recent publications by Drs. Kevin Anderson, Lyndsay Campbell, Hendrik Kraay, and Harvey Amani Whitfield at a long-overdue book launch event at Fort Calgary on March 19. Dr. Anderson introduced the department to his book , which challenges the popular myth that Canadian nationalism has been decidedly more secular and tolerant than its British counterpart. Dr. Campbell discussed her book, , which explores British common law's diverging paths in two places separated from one another by the American Revolution. Dr. Kraay gave an overview of  the manuscript of which he completed for his colleague B. J. Barickman, who passed away in 2016. This book explores how the iconic experience of beachgoing in Rio came into being. To close out the evening, Dr. Whitfield introduced his new book, . This collection of more than 1400 biographies of individuals held in slavery in Canada represents a remarkable research achievement and provides a resource that will be important to future generations of slavery scholars.
