New North America Summit charts the future of a shared continent

With Canada, the United States and Mexico facing generational economic, political and social change, the New North America Summit brought together the current and next generation of leaders to determine a future for our shared continent.

Almost 100 thought leaders on the North American relationship took part in the Summit June 15-16 at Calgary’s BMO Centre to develop a future-oriented vision for our shared continent and practical steps to achieve it.

“Our nations are better off when we’re working together,” Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, one of the keynote speakers told the delegates.

Other keynote speakers were Washington-based journalist , Editorial Director at WP Intelligence, and , best-selling author of American Carnage: On the Front Lines of the Republican Civil War and the Rise of President Trump and an award-winning journalist for The Atlantic magazine.

The Summit was hosted by the New North America Initiative at the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy. It built on the  and the Carnegie Endowment’s  project by incorporating new grassroots polling and focus group intelligence to inform discussions by a wider generational range of leaders.

“The economic and political realities facing Canada, the U.S., and Mexico require more than just the traditional, top-down policy conversations,” said Carlo Dade, Director of International Policy at the School and Director of the NNAI. “By bringing together the next generation of North Americanists with veteran policymakers and ground-level intelligence, we’re charting a realistic, forward-looking roadmap for a shared continent that can withstand global pressures."
