Sponsored Research Terms Guide
The Research Participant Agreement is an internal document used in sponsored research projects at Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ. It ensures that all project participants are bound by the sponsor’s requirements, including those related to:
- Confidential Information: How sensitive information must be handled
- Publications: Sponsor rights to review publications or results
- Intellectual Property: Sponsor rights to Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ IP developed in the project
The Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ Principal Investigator (PI) must ensure that all members of their research team understand and comply with the sponsor’s requirements.
All staff and students should confirm with their supervisor and/or PI if there are any restrictions imposed on them, including around sharing information, publishing, or intellectual property rights.
Process
After a research agreement is in settled form with a sponsor, the Research Legal team member will instruct the Principal Investigator (PI) to obtain completed copies of the Research Participant Agreement from all lab personnel. Over the course of the project, PIs are also responsible for collecting additional Research Participant Agreements from each new lab personnel who joins the project. Completed copies should be sent to researchlegal@ucalgary.ca.
The PI is responsible for ensuring all members of the research team comply with the terms of agreements signed by Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ. The PI is also responsible for maintaining and storing the Research Participant Agreements in a controlled environment easily accessible to the PI.
